New Allotments Ready to Release
Cork Independent, 4th February 2010
The very name conjures up visions of sunny days and balmy evenings where everyone is busy tending to and growing their own vegetables, fruit and flowers.
Most people would like to be given the opportunity to do this but without having to travel too far. So therefore the recent announcement that there will be allotments available in Rochestown is to be welcomed.
Brian & Sue Ludgate with the help and advice of Peter Dowdall of Gardening Radio fame will be in a position to offer these at reasonable rates. These allotments will be approximately 100 square yards or 90 square meters and will be manured, tilled and ready to go.
The location is close to Douglas, Rochestown, Passage West, Monkstown and Carrigaline. It is hoped over the next few years to build up a small community of allotments holders or allotmenteers who would help and advise each other with the assistance of Ludgate Landscapes a very closely related business. A lot of thought and planning has gone into this project and a number of existing allotments have been visited to make sure this will be a top class facility. Water will be laid on and a wind break will be erected to make sure to get the best from the allotments. Toilets and plenty of parking is provided close by.
